High School Learning Labs Our Learning Labs are typically 2 hours in length. Our Labs are designed to support Next Generation Science Standards Cross-cutting concepts and content. Each Lab is hands-on and utilizes Science and Engineering Skills and Practices. Please see our Challenger Center information for Space Science offerings for High school. Back to All Labs Cosmic Origins Earth Science Onsite NGSS Standards: HS-ESS1, HS-ESS2-2 , HS-ESS2-5 Students will be able to learn all about The Big Bang Theory, the galaxy and how Earth became a planet, focusing on the different layers in the Earth and the geosphere. In this lab, students will look at the brightness and distance of stars and the importance of Earth’s layers. This lab pairs well with the planetarium show A Cosmic Journey! DNA Profiling Chemistry, Life Science, Biology Onsite NGSS Standards: HS-LS3-1 , HS-LS1-1 Students will learn about DNA profiling and how crucial it is for criminal cases. In this lab, students will focus on the biology and chemistry of DNA profiling and experiment with gel electrophoresis to narrow down suspects! Mission LEO Space Science, Engineering, Biology, Robotics & Coding Onsite, Travel NGSS Standards: Mission L.E.O is an immersive, high school program that has participants simulate what it might be like to take part in the exploration of an exoplanet. Students will work together in teams to successfully launch and deliver materials to Planet X. They will explore the terrain and take soil samples. When they return safely back to Earth, they will then analyze the samples to determine the best location to build a habitat.

Scout Programs Be prepared for STEAM learning fun! Fun experiences that can be customized for your group! We are happy to provide STEAM programs that support many Badge, Pin, and Belt Loop requirements. In addition to fun experiences designed to engage your group in hands-on learning! Please see below for more information about offerings for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Our standard programs run for 90 minutes and are $25 per scout, $10 per adult and $15 per Tag-a-Long. There is a minimum of 8 scouts required to book a program. Our programs cover some, but not all, of the requirements for a specific badge. We always include a Discovery fun patch. Don’t see what you’re looking for? Ask us about our custom programs. We can cover topics involving engineering, ecosystems, space, forensics, and chemistry. From classic elegance with a unique twist, or a fully out-of-the-box and out-of-this world experience, we have a space to accommodate all tastes. With plenty to do for the younger guests and still with a more classical art gallery feel for the traditionalists, Discovery offers a different experience than a standard rental hall or restaurant can give you. Our full dome Planetarium can accommodate up to 85 guests and we can wow them with our custom planetarium shows. You can come and take a tour to see how Discovery can elevate your event! Fundraisers With special non-profit rates for rentals, Discovery is a great place to throw your next fundraiser! Back to All Labs Challenger Center - Space Simulation Mission Space Science Onsite NGSS Standards: MS-ETS1-1 , MS-ETS1-2 , MS-ETS1-3 **Please note this is a 2 hour program experience.** Discovery Science Center’s Challenger Learning Center is a mock space station and mission control simulation environment that promotes awareness of how technologies make space exploration possible. The simulation creates a cooperative learning atmosphere where students have opportunity to test out a STEM career underscored by teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making. This pairs well with the planetarium show Mars: The Ultimate Voyage! Comparative Anatomy Life Science Onsite NGSS Standards: MS-LS4-2, MS-LS4-4, MS-LS4-6 Students will be able to explore different species and their anatomy as they study the evidence of biological evolution. In this lab, students will see common examples of ancestry. Digging Through Time Earth Science, Evolution Travel, Onsite NGSS Standards: MS-ESS1-4, MS-ESS2-2, MS-ESS2-3 Students will be able to identify the geosphere, look at the different layers of Earth & the strata of the planet. In this lab, students will be able to recognize timelines and make predictions as to when events happened and where they are now. This lab pairs well with the Planetarium show The Birth of Planet Earth! Engineering for Earth Earth Science, Engineering Onsite NGSS Standards: MS-ESS3-3 , MS-ESS-5 , MS-ETS1-1 Students will learn about solar panels, water consumption, wind energy, Earth’s resources and the negative effects of human consumptions. In this lab, we will focus on our weaknesses and devise a strategy to help our planet & build a prototype water filtration system. Gene Lab Life Science Travel, Onsite NGSS Standards: MS-LS1-4 , MS-LS1-5 , MS-LS3-2, MS-LS3-1 Students will learn about DNA and the genetic code that determines our features. In this lab, students will have the opportunity to join us on the Dragon Reserve and Conservation Operation (DRACO) to breed their own dragon! Students will learn the differences between genotype and phenotype to create highly adapted new generations! Molecule Mysteries Chemistry Onsite NGSS Standards: MS-PS1-2 , MS-PS1-5 Students will learn about the motion and stability of the tiniest particles on Earth. In this lab, students will investigate how molecules will react with one another and theorize what happens if they are to introduce a chemical reaction. The Beginning of Brains Biology, Evolution Travel, Onsite NGSS Standard s: MS-LS1-1, MS-LS1-2, MS-LS1-3, MS-LS1-8 Students will focus on exploring sensory receptors, how our brain sends signals to different parts of our bodies and how memories form. In this lab, students will be able to solve a brain puzzle, test their reflexes, explore different brain models and guess which brain belongs to what animal!

Request a donation from Discovery to your Organization Discovery is happy to support charitable organizations, schools, and libraries in our community. Submit your request below for a donation to your auction, raffle, or other fundraiser. Discovery Science Center and Planetarium Donation Policies As an independent 501(c)(3) organization, Discovery is pleased to support other nonprofit organizations. It is our policy only to donate to other nonprofits. Requests submitted without an official 501(c)(3) number will not be considered. All donation requests must be submitted at least three weeks prior to your event. Donation requests are considered only once per calendar year per 501(c)(3).
