@ Discovery: Discover NASA Astronaut Training Day

We celebrated the successful completion of our first year of Discover NASA programming by rewarding our youngest rocket scientists (grades K-2) with an out-of-this-world day of fun! Astronaut Training Day activities were based on rocketry content students learned throughout the year and included: rocket launches, moon walk shoes, gyroscopic chair, lunar sample viewings, and an astronaut training obstacle course.

• Earth-like Planets: A team of Belgian researchers has discovered three planets (with temperatures and size similar to Venus and Earth) which orbit an ultracool dwarf star forty light years from Earth.
• Species Count: Indiana University scientists estimate that the Earth could contain close to one trillion species, with just one-thousandth of one percent currently classified.
• Martian Tsunamis: US scientists believe that enormous tsunami waves swept across the surface of Mars billions of years ago.
