Volunteering at the Science Center is a wonderful way to contribute to the community and to our mission.

Help to promote STEAM literacy by volunteering your time at Discovery

There are many ways to use your skills and expertise to help at the Science Center and make a difference in our community. We are looking for high school and college students age 16 and up to assist with some of the following:

 

STEAM Learning Programs:

Prepare and clean-up classrooms for science demonstrations and activities

Prepare materials for special programming

Assist with classes, planetarium shows, Science-on-a-Sphere demonstrations, and live science demonstrations

 

Development and Fundraising:

Assist with newsletters, annual reports, and large mailings

Research and draft social media and blog content

 

Guest Services and Special Events:

Be a gallery docent and help guide guests’ STEAM experiences at the Science Center

Assist in preparation for public weekend events and programming

Organize supplies and inventory for special events and birthday parties

 

IT:

Review and assess security on education laptops and other machines

Help assemble a full inventory of Science Center technology and identify risks or maintenance requests

Address maintenance needs as much as possible

 

Social Media/Website/Blog:

Plan, propose and schedule social media posts to promote Science Center activities, events, and news

Cross promote using Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram

Draft blog content

Propose new ways to grow our social media following and to incorporate social media into guest experience

 

Public Events:

Assist with special event activities

Be a gallery docent

Conduct guided mini-tours

 

Finance:

Help with clerical and administrative projects such as filing and sorting

 

We also have a number of special opportunities for parents and guardians who want to volunteer at Discovery with our Parent Advisory Council:

  • Meet periodically to discuss topics related to strengthening Science Center programming and exhibits
  • Offer feedback, input, and guidance to help Discovery meet local families’ needs
  • Provide feedback on possible new offerings (programs, activities, etc.)
  • Help promote Discovery events
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of Science Center events
