Space Day 2017: Out-of-This-World Fun

On April 1, 2017 over 1,800 local kids and families joined us for a wonderful day of space exploration at Discovery Museum. From 10am to 4pm, the Museum offered a dizzying array of special activities from astronaut pictures to live science demonstrations, planetarium shows, hands-on activities with local engineers and engineering students, high-definition movies about the latest NASA discoveries, and more! Kids launched rockets in the field outside the Museum, made galaxy foam, and built their own models of the solar system, exploring all the Museum’s unique educational resources. Thanks to the support of the Connecticut Space Grant Consortium, Discovery Museum was able to offer all these special activities as part of an admission-free day where the whole community could join in on the fun at no cost.

Dozens of volunteers from Sacred Heart University, University of Bridgeport, and Fairfield University pitched in to help Museum staff and other local professionals running activity booths and helping guests to make the most of their visit to the Museum. Discovery Museum loves to offer special events like this, and looks forward to seeing more of our neighbors out again soon for another fun day of STEM learning fun!
