Opening Reception for Matt Laufer’s Exhibit
April 7, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Celebrate the opening of Matt Laufer’s exhibit of selected paintings and poems.
A Connecticut native, Matt Laufer, has been involved with the arts since he was a teenager. He is a self-taught artist who paints wildlife, nature scenes, and abstract art. A motor vehicle accident left Matt paralyzed from the chest and shoulders down. The urge to create was so great that he went about finding a new way to create his art since he could no longer use his hands. Matt discovered that he could paint with a paintbrush in his mouth. Determination and practice led Matt to where he is today — exhibiting his art in a museum for the first art time.
Matt finds his paintings to be cathartic. He has come to realize that his artwork is often reflective of where he is in his own healing journey. He uses paint as a medium to convey what otherwise would have remained silent and attempts to portray the passion of his spirit. Matt hopes to depict a complex range of motion through color, texture, and symbolism.
