This week we are installing an exciting new educational experience here at Discovery Museum, Science On a Sphere® (SOS).

SOS Install02SOS is a room sized system that uses computers and video projectors to display planetary data onto a giant animated sphere (six foot diameter). Researchers at NOAA developed Science On a Sphere® as an educational tool to help illustrate Earth System science to people of all ages. Discovery Museum’s SOS will open in time for Space Day on Saturday, April 2.

SOS Install01This week, our exhibits crew, staff from NOAA and contractors are working together to get our sphere in place, align and configure our projectors and computer systems, and to complete our staff training so that we can share Science On a Sphere® (SOS) presentations with all of our guests on Saturday.
